The climb up to the summit camp was a hard one: ten miles at 14,000 feet in the cold took its toll on me. After setting up camp and eating dinner in the cold, the sun started sinking low on the horizon. I was struck by the lone giant groundsel, found only on the high alpine slopes of Mount Kenya. Silhouetted against the sunset and mountain peak, I snapped this striking photo.
