At the highest point of the village, an ancient church dated to the 9th century rested, overlooking the village. Leaning in, I snapped a photo of an old lock that secured an ancient brass church door with a crucifix punched into the metal. The lock was surrounded by thin, yellow wax prayer candles stuck to the stone walls.
